Is Esther for Esther?

I

Like I mentioned in a previous post, this year God has opened my eyes to the mystery of praying with scriptural references. They even do it in every Covenant University service, they announce the prayer point and then give the scriptural reference, but up until this year, I thought that was just for “activity”, all praise to God for freeing me from that delusion and opening my eyes to see the power in using scriptures to pray.

So lately I’ve been praying for something(that which cannot be named until God has perfected it), and it led me to the book of Esther. Esther has this wonderful story that fit right into my prayer point and until this morning, I’ve been using only Esther 2:9 and 2:17, the prayer goes thus “God favor me like Esther, let my team and I be picked, let us be chosen and crowned like Esther”. Such a wonderful prayer I’ve been praying, as far as I’m concerned; the Holy Spirit led me to the story of Esther as my prayer anchor for this prayer point and I’m fully persuaded that the Lord will answer it.

However, something interesting happened today; Because I haven’t been studying a lot of God’s word lately (probably just the 2 lines I need for my prayer points), I was prompted to continue reading from my usual stop at verse 17. It’s interesting  to know that not all the greats of the Bible have chapters named after them, not Moses, not Abraham, not David, not Paul and not even Jesus. Then it got me thinking… “Is the book of Esther for Queen Esther?” if we read past her awesome success story of grass to Grace in chapter 1 and 2 we see that; life is not just about one’s transformation to success but what the person does with the success.

God blessed her for a reason, just like God has blessed and is still blessing each and everyone of us for a reason, but the million dollar question here is “What are you doing with your blessings?” Reading till chapter 10 of Esther opened me up to the fact that getting blessed is not the end of the story, Doing things for the glory of God no matter how difficult it is, is what we’re blessed for.

Esther had the opportunity to sit back and rest, there was no way was she going to be killed when Haman went on his massacre spree on the 13th day. But she didn’t sit back and watch her people get slaughtered, not only that; she risked getting killed to save her people; she knew she couldn’t just go and see the king anytime she felt like (that is a punishable offense), she could only go see the king when she was called upon. But, she realized God placed her as Queen not just for the finest wine in the kingdom but for his Glory, so she went anyway and requested that the decree be reverted. God even favored her again and her request was granted, Haman was hanged and her people were save.

It’s important to note that even after God blesses us, we must make a conscious decision to use our blessings for his Glory, NO MATTER THE COST!
